We recently got back from a family vacation in Cuba and decided that when we return we would transition our son Lucian (almost 2 years old) to his big boy bed. Being away from home for a week and sleeping in a new environment (sharing a bed with me) got Lucian out of his old routine, and allowed a better window for making change. He had no issue with his new toddler bed, and has slept in it for both night and naps. It's been great!
It doesn't have to be a whole week away, you can use a weekend trip or a trip to the cottage to make new habits for your kids, and create an easier transition for them. These opportunities can be used to try new foods, new routines, or to take away old habits that you may be trying to change. It will make things easier for the whole family!
