My older son Jordi started junior kindergarden this september, and it's definitely changed our routine around the house. I'm definitely feeling the faster pace - he's never been in daycare, so having to stick to a formalized schedule in the mornings is a new thing at our house. I try to make most of his lunch the night before, and then package it up the next morning so it's all fresh. As a Naturopath, of course I feel that nutrition is key to Jordi having a good day at school! BUT, I'm also learning i can't control everything. At Jordi's school they have two nutrition breaks instead of one lunch, so I never know what he'll grab out of his lunch bag at either break. I try to put a variety of snacks in there - fruit, veggies, muffins, crackers, yogurt, sandwiches etc. However, at the end of the day, I'm finding that there's a lot of the food left untouched, and it's usually the more 'tempting' foods (ie. granola bar) that are missing! It's been a frustrating experience. Yesterday I'm pleased to say he ate everything for the first time! Here's the winning combination of the day: organic yogurt box, cut up strawberries and raspberries, granola bar and half of a muesli bagel with cream cheese! So I've decided that every day won't be a winner in the nutrition department, but all you can do is keep trying!
