For the last 3 weeks I've been out of a dishwasher. It conveniently broke down right in the middle of our 2 week cleanse. Not fun. I have been patiently waiting to have it fixed, but in the meantime I'm doing it all by hand. I'd forgotten how many dishes you can accumulate in a day, and having 2 kids of course creates even more mess. How did women do it back in the days before modern conveniences? How did they get the meals cooked, dishes done, house cleaned, kids clothed and still have time to do their hair and makeup? Wow!
Recently I felt like I was always at the sink trying to catch up with all the mess, thinking about how hard it is to maintain cleanliness and still have time to 'play'. I had to surrender and leave the dishes till the night, which of course cuts into 'me' time, but something had to give. Over the last few years I have struggled with the fact that my house is not as organized and 'clean' as I'd like to have it, but having 2 high-spirited and energetic children makes it nearly impossible to keep up with all the mess. It still creates a certain anxiety when I scramble to clean up when someone is 'popping over' for a visit, but I 've decided that at this season of my life my kids are more important, and I want them to feel like they can 'play'. So to all you moms who feel they're not 'getting it all done', let the guilt go, let the toys takeover your house and realize that soon enough you'll be missing those little 'messes'!
